Freeride Bicycles
Freeride certainly is not "free" but it is the perfect word to describe those who like to take their off-road cycling to the edge! From racing downhill on a nine-inch travel bicycle to airing out BMX style jumps on wood or dirt on a hardtail bicycle.
"Downhill" racing bikes are what started the "Freeride" genre. Going down the side of a mountain as fast you can on a timed course, much like downhill ski racing. Downhill Bikes are built for speed, stability and extremely rough and steep terrain.
"All Mountain" bicycles have the advantages of a downhill racing bike and the pedaling effeciency of a trail bike. It is not the best going up and not the best going down but "All Mountain" bikes are a good compromise for the person who wants one bike and wants to ride "classic cross country" and "freeride."
Front suspended bikes or hardtails that fit into this genre are made for jumping BMX style jumps or riding street style trick riding. These are made extra heavy duty with different geometry and stronger parts from the "classic cross country" bicycles.
